Happy Pi(e) Day!

Today, 3/14/15 is the ultimate Pi day, i.e. a day to indulge in all things pie! Pie day happens every year on 3/14 but this year it’s ultimate because the year is the next two digits of pie! Neither Rose or I are big fans of traditional pie. Despite our parents disapproval, on Thanksgiving we both opt to make bars or brownies instead of apple or pumpkin pie. Don’t get me wrong, I will still indulge in a big slice of pie drowned in ice cream when it’s placed in front of me, I just prefer something a little more crunchy I suppose. Lets be honest, I will indulge in anything drowned in ice cream… heck just put the whole pint in front of me with a spoon. But I digress.. back to the ULTIMATE pi day.

We decided to round up some different, non-traditional pie recipes for you to try out today in honor of pi(e) day. Please note that none of these recipes or pictures are our own and we have credited all of the wonderfully creative people who’s they are.

Coconut-Key-Lime-Pie-Martini-1First up is this Coconut-Key Lime Pie Martini from Home Cooking Memories. We love the idea of making a pie martini. It sounds and looks absolutely delicious, especially with spring weather in the air.

Sweet-Potato-Pecan-Pie-Doughnuts-I-howsweeteats.com-3

Next are these absolutely drool worthy Sweet Potato Pecan Pie Doughnuts from How Sweet it is. How Sweet it is is one of my favorite food bloggers and she always has fun food combinations worth a try, like these pecan pie doughnuts. If only we had a doughnut mold!

Onto a more savory pie recipe with this Tortilla and Black Bean Pie from Martha Stewart. Now this is a pie I can definitely get on board with; tortillas, corn, beans, cheese, oh yum!

ShepherdsPie

This Vegan Lentil Shepherd’s Pie from One Ingredient Chef just looks too good not to try. We have made a similar recipe before and absolutely loved it so this recipe I’m sure what disappoint. I mean, just look at that sweet potato.

Slow-Cooker-Chicken-Pot-Pie-1

This Slow Cooker Chicken Pot Pie recipe from Creole Contessa also looks amazing. We love love love chicken pot pie here and being able to let it cook all day in the slow cooker just makes it sound even better! Time to pull out the slow cooker again..

Next we have these Pumpkin Pie Roasted Almonds from Knead to Cook. As our previous post mentioned, we are big nut eaters in this household. Add some pumpkin pie to the nuts and yum! I could just eat these all in one sitting.

Last we have this Apple Pie Oatmeal from Eat. Drink. Savor. Repeat. This oatmeal looks like the perfect bowl to wake up to. Apple pie for breakfast? Count me in!

We hope you all have a wonderfully delicious and filling day full of delightful pie treats! We know we will be making a few of these recipes in the near future (if not right now…) so you should try them out too and let us know your favorites! Happy Pi Day!

  1. Yum very inventive! Pythagoras would be so proud… probably would go for those donuts in a big way.
